 DISPOSABLE STERILE DENTAL EXAM KITS
CAN HELP EASE PATIENTS FEAR OF AIDS
IRVINE, Calif., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Disposable sterile examinations implements are being used by a growing number of dentists as a means of reassuring patients fearful of AIDS, according to Al Janmohamed, director of the firm that distributes them.
The kits of six plastic/metal disposable sterile implements from Expandavision International are for examinations only. Conventional dental equipment must be used for other dental work such as filling a tooth. Janmohamed points out that there are more than 180 million dental examinations performed on a yearly basis in the United States in dental offices and such locations as clinics, institutions, schools and industrial plants.
"These kits" meet the need of eliminating patients' fear that re-used implements may be contaminated, thus, this product can be helpful in getting patients with unnecessary concerns to receive much- needed routine dental care, says Dr. David L. Lewis of the University of Georgia, faculty of Ecology, who supports their use. "Dentists must not just successfully deal with only preventing any real risks of cross- infection, instead, they must go beyond this to alleviate any irrational fears of AIDS."
The disposable sterile implements save valuable time and money in sterilization through washing and heat treatment of conventional implements and can be readily used in places where facilities for sterilization are not available. The demand for the implements will increase as their convenience and cost effectiveness becomes known.
The kits consist of three different angled explorers: a mirror, forceps and a saliva ejector, which are individually packaged to insure sterility. The cost of the kit is $3.95 U.S. plus shipping when purchased in lots of 100 or more.
"Because we want to demonstrate further our dedication to products and measures of value to people's health, we have gone further and pledged to donate to AIDS and cancer research a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the kits," said G. Marco Tawachi, president of Expandavision International.
The kits are available to dentists and health care firms through dental and medical supply houses. For more information on regional distributors call Expandavision at 714-833-7193/
