 DISNEY PROMOTES TWO SENIOR EXECUTIVES
BURBANK, Calif., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Joe Shapiro and Sanford

M. Litvack have each been promoted to executive vice president of The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS)
Their promotions were announced today by Michael D. Eisner, chairman and chief executive officer, and Frank G. Wells, president and chief operating officer, to whom they both report.
"While Joe and Sandy will continue serving in their same general capacities, these promotions recognize their expanded roles as The Walt Disney Co. extends its entertainment reach to all corners of the globe," Eisner said.
"As key members of the senior management, both have seen the scope of their responsibilities grow as our business takes us into new endeavors, new media and new parts of the world."
Shapiro continues to be responsible for administration of the company's worldwide corporate business affairs and government relations. Litvack continues as general counsel of the corporation.
Wells cited Shapiro's many contributions to the company. "Joe was our chief negotiator with the French government and personally negotiated the intricate master agreement for Euro Disney," he said. "Joe has also been extremely effective in a variety of other important assignments in the company's increasingly complex affairs around the globe."
Shapiro joined Disney in January 1985 as its general counsel. He was promoted to senior vice president in February 1991. Litvack succeeded Shapiro as general counsel in March.
"Sandy Litvack was one of our most valued outside legal advisers before joining the company early this year," Wells said. "That experience enabled him to easily make the transition to chief Disney legal officer while undertaking a number of other important responsibilities as a highly valued member of our senior management team."
Litvack was a member of the executive committee and chairman of the litigation department of the international law firm of Dewey Ballantine before joining Disney.
During his career, he rose from associate at Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine in 1961 to chairman of its executive committee from 1983 to 1986. In 1977, he became a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, an honor accorded to about 1 percent of the country's trial lawyers.
Shapiro studied English literature at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was graduated with honors and was elected to phi beta kappa. He was also graduated with honors from Harvard Law School.
Litvack holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Connecticut and an LL.B. from Georgetown Law Center. A former chairman of the Antitrust Law Section of the New York Bar Association, he has been admitted to various courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
Shapiro, a resident of Santa Monica, Calif., is a co-founder and a member of the board of directors of Tripod, a Los Angeles school for deaf children. He is also chairman of the board of Southern California Alumni Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania.
Litvack has been a guest lecturer at the Practicing Law Institute and Columbia University School of Law. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and a director of Bet Tzedek, an organization devoted to providing legal aid to the needy in Southern California.
He resides in Westwood, Calif., with his wife, Judith Goldenson Litvack. They have four children.
