DISNEY NAMES JOHN DREYER TO SHARE TOP CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS DUTIES

 BURBANK, Calif., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Sixteen-year Disney veteran John Dreyer has been named vice president-corporate communications for The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS).
 Dreyer, a career communications specialist, was formerly manager of press and publicity for the Walt Disney World Resort, Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
 In his new role, he will share duties as a company spokesperson and responsibility for media relations, executive communications and the company's quarterly and annual reports with Thomas J. Deegan, who continues as a vice president-corporate communications.
 Dreyer and Deegan will both report to Michael D. Eisner, chairman and chief executive officer, and Frank G. Wells, president and chief operating officer.
 A Cincinnati native, Dreyer joined the Walt Disney World Resort cast as a publicist in 1977. He took on additional staff supervisory duties in 1980 and was named manager in 1988.
 At Walt Disney World, he and his staff developed media material for all aspects of the 30,000-acre Vacation Kingdom and served as liaisons with the editorial side of general circulation newspapers and magazines and the news departments of radio and TV stations.
 As press and publicity manager, Dreyer was a key member of the Disney team that created and produced Mickey Mouse's 60th birthday celebration, the grand opening of the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park and the Walt Disney World 20th Anniversary.
 Prior to joining Disney, he served in public relations for The Delta Queen Steamboat Co. which operates steam-powered sternwheel riverboats for overnight cruises on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. He also has been a freelance writer and a high school English teacher.
 He us a 1969 graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati where he earned a bachelor's degree in English.
