DIRECTORS GUILD OF AMERICA SPOKESMAN TO TESTIFY TUESDAY AT CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE HEARING; SAYS NEW YORK'S FILM PRODUCTION INDUSTRY THREATENED
What: The City Council's Intergroup Relations Committee will
hear testimony from Alan S. Gordon, eastern executive
secretary of the Directors Guild of America (DGA), and
other leaders of the city's film and television
 production industry.
 When: 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Where: 250 Broadway, 23rd floor hearing room, New York.
Why: The hearing is being held at the request of various City
Council members to learn why the Mayor's Office still
has not appointed a director for the Mayor's Office of
Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, and to receive a
status report about the state of film and television
 production in New York City.
Who: Alan S. Gordon, eastern executive secretary of the
Directors Guild of America, will urge the city
administration to fill the position of Director of
Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, and take swift action
to prevent the "death of New York City's film
 production industry."
 Details:
Gordon plans to testify that the Mayor's Office does not comprehend the need to treat the film production industry as an "economic asset that needs nurturing and development." He will also suggest that the City Council create its own entity to act on behalf of the film production industry, and will pledge the support of various creative unions.
Gordon also will discuss a recent action taken by the DGA and other unions representing creative talent to commission an economic impact study "to help us demonstrate to the city's bureaucracy the real, high- stakes nature of the issues involved."
Gordon will be available for media interviews after completion of his testimony. For further information and an advance copy of Gordon's remarks,
CONTACT: Myrna Baron Public Relations, 212-677-1747, for the Directors Guild of America.
