HARTLAND, Wis., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Direct Data Inc. and NBS Technologies Inc. (Toronto: SBY) of Montreal, Quebec, have introduced a new multi-function, point-of-sale transaction terminal called the Octave, announced Dick Draper, chairman of Direct Data Inc., and Jim Johnson, president of NBS Point of Sale (POS) Division, in a joint statement.
The Octave's memory can be partitioned into four sections, each containing a secure application which can be certified separately. The terminal also features a memory capacity of 64K to 512K. "The Octave launches a new generation of transaction terminals," said Draper. "With four independent applications, our customers will be able to mix debit/credit with specialized applications such as frequency shopper programs and check verification services. And today's market is now demanding that level of flexibility."
Direct Data Inc. and NBS Technologies Inc. recently announced a reciprocal marketing agreement and the Octave is their first joint product launch. In addition to marketing each other's products in their respective countries, the two companies have agreed to team on new product development. "The Octave exemplifies the strength of this new alliance. It provides both our companies with an opportunity to ensure our products are truly market-driven by exchanging valuable insight into our customers' requirements, as well as technical expertise," explained Johnson.
Financial Systems Inc., which has been marketing NBS POS' products in the Northeast United States for 14 years, will also distribute the Octave through its new relationship with Direct Data.
Direct Data Inc. recently merged with its sister company Stone-West Inc., which until the beginning of this year was the only American independent sales contractor for VeriFone. In addition to Direct Data's alliance with NBS, the company has established a reciprocal relationship with the Paris-based transaction automation company, Sinfa S. A. The products marketed by Direct Data include the MICR reader, Cheq'R(TM); the bar code/IVR unit, Sabre(TM); the combination smart card, magnetic stripe and POS device, DesCartes(TM); the thermal receipt printer, PenPlus(TM), the frequency marketing software, Reflex(TM), and the terminal communications software, TCOMM(TM). Headquartered in Hartland, Wis., Direct Data has sales offices in Chicago, Lansing, Mich., Atlanta, San Diego and St. Louis.
NBS POS Division is the leader in Canada's transaction automation industry. The company develops, manufactures and markets a range of software and hardware products, including terminals, compatible PIN pads and printers. NBS will achieve a 20-year milestone this year. Since 1974, the Montreal, Quebec-based company has deployed terminals in several regions around the world, including Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
