DINOSAURS DEBUT ON COMPUSERVE; CONTEST ANNOUNCED

COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Dinosaur enthusiasts throughout the world can now receive up-to-date discovery information and even share prehistoric reptile humor through the Dinosaur Forum (GO DINO) on the CompuServe Information Service.
CompuServe can be accessed by any modem-equipped personal computer utilizing the CompuServe Information Manager graphical interface or any general communications software.
Though the blockbuster movie "Jurassic Park" has thrust dinosaurs into the spotlight recently, dinosaurs have been the favorite pastime of countless children and a growing interest among adults. The Dinosaur Forum offers updates on scientific reports, museum events and schedules, current information and conversation about dinosaurs and dinosaur graphic images, viewable on computer screens. In addition, a number of world-renowned paleontologists will answer questions and offer first- hand information in the forum. Matt Smith, who created the Snake River dig site for "Jurassic Park," will conduct interviews and conferences online.
The forum is operated by The Dinosaur Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the funding of dinosaur research and education. As a major source of information on dinosaurs for journalists, scholars, publishers and product manufacturers, the Dinosaur Society also operates the Dinosaur Club for children ages five through 12. Membership ($19.95 per year) now includes a free introductory membership to CompuServe.
The forum also has the added support of the Dinomation International Society, a non-profit organization that promotes science education and research, with emphasis on dinosaur paleontology.
Film critic Roger Ebert, who is already active on CompuServe (GO EBERT), will post his review of the movie online and will discuss the film in the Dinosaur Forum.
On June 23, CompuServe will launch The Great Dinosaur Trivia Contest & Giveaway, a 10-week online contest free of connect-time charges. The Dinosaur Society will provide three multiple choice questions each week. A correct answer enters a player into the weekly drawing containing 300 prizes and into the drawing for the grand prize of five days and four nights for two at a dinosaur dig site in Grand Junction, Colo. Winners also will be given a private tour by scientists from the Dinomation Society and take part in an active dig. Transportation will be provided by American Airlines and hotel accommodations by Holiday Inn.
Established in 1979, the CompuServe Information Service provides its worldwide membership of more than 1.3 million with 1,700 databases and services to meet both business and personal interests. CompuServe members pay $8.95 per month for unlimited connect-time access to 37 basic services. When accessing CompuServe's other 1,700 areas, including the Dinosaur Forum, members pay $8 per hour when using a 1200 or 2400 bits per second (bps) modem or $16 per hour when using a 9600 bps modem.
