DIGITAL SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES FIRST PHASE OF DSSI LICENSING PROGRAM,
ANNOUNCES DECISION TO LICENSE CI TECHNOLOGY
MAYNARD, Mass., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC) today announced the successful completion of the first phase of its DSSI (Digital Storage Systems Interconnect) licensing program, first introduced in April 1992, with the signing of licensing agreements by 17 companies, including six manufacturers. To date, CMD Technology, of Irvine, Calif.; Divide Drives, Inc., of Longmont, Colorado; Emulex Corporation, of Costa Mesa, California; Exsys Storage Systems, of San Jose, Calif.; Sigma Information Systems, of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Transitional Technology, Inc., of Anaheim, California, have been granted patent licenses to manufacture and sell DSSI-based storage products. CMD Technology was the first company to sign a DSSI licensing agreement.
"We're pleased that these companies have chosen to participate in the DSSI licensing program," said Charles F. Christ, vice president of Digital's Departmental/SME Systems and Software, and Mass Storage businesses. "Licensing is an open business practice that yields benefits to all participants."
Digital today also made public its decision to license the corporation's CI (Computer Interconnect) technology and that a licensing program for CI technology has been in development for some time. A CI patent licensing package will be available in autumn 1992 to all third parties interested in manufacturing and selling CI-based products.
Both the DSSI licensing program and the forthcoming CI licensing program are managed by Digital's Corporate Licensing Office(CLO), responsible for licensing Digital technology, related patents and other intellectual property rights to third parties.
