DIGITAL F/X(TM) INTRODUCES TITLEMAN(TM) AT NAB
 TitleMan PostScript(R) Title Generator Feeds
Macintosh Titles and Graphics into the On-Line Room
LAS VEGAS, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital F/X Inc. unveiled its newest innovation, the TitleMan PostScript title generator. TitleMan creates fully anti-aliased titles from any of over 10,000 PostScript fonts. Many post-production facilities, TV stations, corporations, producers and graphic designers already use PostScript fonts on their Macintoshes. TitleMan creates the long-awaited bridge between the Macintosh(R) and the on-line edit suite: it is like a "video printer," quickly converting any EPS file to an (H-phaseable) fully anti-aliased broadcast video signal. TitleMan also renders PICT and PICT2 files.
"We use just about every font in the world, and Digital F/X's PostScript rendering and anti-aliasing is the best we've seen," said Ralph Fumante, vice president, Studio Operations for HBO. Macintosh Titles and Graphics in the Edit Suite
Clients are no longer limited to the handful of fonts post facilities happen to have on their character generator. Video productions can now include the same typefaces and other artwork used in their printed material -- without having to shoot them under a stat camera. The time saved by converting clients' graphics directly to a high quality video signal can be used more creatively to enhance the production values of the overall project. In the graphics suite, clients can bring in their basic designs and feed an RGB and linear key signal directly to the paint system. TitleMan includes tools for both type and graphics. Type can be cut and pasted, expanded, or compressed. Position and transparency of drop shadows can be varied. Thirteen PostScript typefaces are included which are resizable to any scan line size. Over 10,000 PostScript typefaces are available through third party vendors, including international fonts.
"TitleMan lets video post houses feed any of the 10,000 standard PostScript fonts directly into the edit suite or graphics room," according to John Warnock, chairman and founder of Adobe Systems Inc., inventors of PostScript, the standard for high quality print and display output. "Now clients can easily use the same fonts in all their corporate communications -- from print to video."
TitleMan also renders and anti-aliases graphics from most popular Macintosh and PC graphics applications, including PhotoShop, Illustrator, MacDraw, Harvard Graphics, and Corel Draw. PhotoShop image processing filters are supported for effects such as posterization, mosaic and dozens of others not usually available in the edit suite. Backgrounds can be created using a 16.8 million color palette. An airbrush with variable size and softness can be used for creating custom mattes. Graphics can be repositioned and composited using cut, copy, and paste. The TitleMan frame buffer can grab full color RGB&K digital images and store them as TitleMan or PICT2 files. TitleMan System Configuration
The TitleMan system consists of a frame buffer which plugs into a Macintosh for display and frame grabs; integrated software for creating titles and rendering and anti-aliasing PostScript titles and graphics; and an external rack-mountable chassis that takes black- burst reference in, and puts RGB, linear key, and sync out. The H- phase of the output can be adjusted with respect to reference. The TitleMan system connects with standard BNCs to a transcoder for YUV output, to an encoder for composite output, or directly to a component switcher. Pricing and Availability
TitleMan will be available in June for $7,995. TitleMan requires a Macintosh II computer with a NuBus slot, minimum of 8 MB RAM, System 6.0.5 or later.
