DIGITAL EQUIPMENT CORPROATION NAMES FRANCIS ARNONE RETAIL/WHOLESALE INDUSTRY DIRECTOR
MAYNARD, Mass., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC) announced today that Francis H. Arnone has joined the company's Retail/Wholesale Business Unit as industry director. Arnone, who previously was chairman and CEO of Marshalls, Inc., is responsible for the business unit's volume and profit in the U.S. and Canada. He will supervise its sales, marketing, services and systems integration groups, and will report directly to Abbott Weiss, vice president of the Retail/Wholesale Business Unit. According to Weiss, the appointment significantly extends the business unit's expertise and capabilities. "We are extremely pleased to have Frank directing our North America business. His extensive knowledge of the industry, broad experience base and successes with leading retail organizations will prove invaluable as we continue enhancing our line of technology solutions," Weiss said. Arnone brings more than 30 years of retail industry expertise to Digital. He has been instrumental in helping drive Digital retail/wholesale sales during the past year, in his role as a consultant to the business unit.
Previously, as chairman and CEO of Marshalls,
Arnone directly supervised stores operations, merchandise, planning and allocations, sales promotion, marketingand human resources for the 400- store organization.
Arnone's retail experience also includes his position as president and CEO of Carter Hawley Hale's Stores services division, where he provided marketing strategies to divisions such as Neiman Marcus, The Broadway, and Emporium Capwell. Before joining CHH, he was president and CEO of The Broadway, one of the nation's largest department stores. Arnone also was president and CEO of Weinstock's Department Stores, which operated in Northern California, Nevada and Utah. Arnone holds a graduate degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business in advanced management, and a bachelor of science degree in marketing from Fordham University. He also earned a doctor of philanthropy degree from Pepperdine University. Mr. Arnone currently is a director of several organizations, including the National Urban League, National Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
