DIGITAL CALENDAR MARKS EVOLUTION OF CALENDAR FORM

BOULDER, Colo., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Combining the sensory aspects of video and the physical properties of paper, UNDER THE SUN brings the calendar form into the Twenty-first century. UNDER THE SUN is the first CD-ROM based calendar enhanced with QuickTime video. The unique QuickTime footage features 67 minutes of sports oriented segments enabling the user to momentarily escape the routine of the day with a click of the mouse. The calendar permits the user to schedule appointments on a daily basis with the added benefit of providing a month-at-a-glance view on their computer screen. It can also make available a printout of the user's schedule on a daily or weekly basis to accommodate travel.
The technology of CD-ROM and digital video enables the user to move away from the traditional paper calendar, making it very environmental. According to David Barwin of Macsimum Creative Enterprises, the originator of this product, "Not only can we save trees, but the environmental aspect extends to the vinyl sleeve casing of the CD which differs from the elaborate jewel case associated with current CD-ROM packaging."
Video content consists of parasailing in France, extreme skiing in Colorado, snowboarding in Oregon, sea kayaking in Alaska, mountain biking, ice climbing, and other action filled vignettes. According to Barwin, "This calendar is the first of a series, titled 'Digital Days,' which will feature other special subjects generally associated with calendar themes planned for release in 1995."
With the growing number of CD-ROM drive owners, the market for this calendar should grow significantly. Marketing director, Richard Croog commented that "the calendar can be customized for presentation by select groups. As CD-ROM becomes more commonplace, consumers may anticipate it as a premium tied to other services or products as opposed to the wall and desk type with which we are so familiar." The company is planning to display it at future trade shows.
The calendar has a suggested retail price of $39.95 and is currently available on the Macintosh platform. It can be ordered directly from Johnson Books, 1880 S. 57th Ct. Boulder, CO 80301 or by calling 800-258-5830 or faxing 303-443-1679. Johnson Books is a producer and distributor of CD-ROM products.
