DIGITAL BIOMETRICS ANNOUNCES THIRD QUARTER RESULTS
MINNETONKA, Minn., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Biometrics, Inc.,

(NASDAQ: DBII), a Minnetonka-based manufacturer of inkless electronic fingerprint systems, today announced operating results for the three and nine-month periods ended June 30, 1992.
Sales for the three and nine-month periods ended June 30, 1992, were $828,296 and $2,035,060 compared with $125,013 and $1,075,469 in the same periods a year ago. Sales for the nine months ended June 30, 1992 represent an 89 percent increase over the prior year.
Net losses for the three- and nine-month periods ended June 30, 1992, were $541,547 and $1,469,501 compared with $470,921 and $1,159,190 in the same periods a year ago. The net loss per common share was $.10 and $.26 for the three- and nine-month periods ended June 30, 1992, compared with $.10 and $.28 for the same periods a year ago. The per- share amounts have been retroactively adjusted to reflect the 3-for-2 stock split effective July 26, 1991.
Expenditures on research and development and marketing expenses exceed prior year costs by 134 percent and 101 percent, respectively. Research and development programs include the company's recently announced squad car identification unit SQUID(TM). Marketing efforts include several international areas, as well as new programs to increase market penetration in the United States. Considering prior-year legal expenses incurred in connection with the company's protest of a significant contract awarded to a competitor, general and administrative costs have increased 57 percent due to additional personnel and an increase in general operating activity.
Jack A. Klingert, president and chief executive officer of Digital Biometrics, said, "The company now has in excess of 100 TENPRINTER(R) systems installed in 20 states and three international locations. We continue to be very pleased with the market's acceptance of the TENPRINTER live-scan fingerprint system. Major metropolitan areas such as Chicago, Philadelphia and Houston acquiring multiple fingerprint systems and transmitting fingerprints to central identification facilities have selected the company's TENPRINTER system. In addition, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department recently issued an invitation to bid for approximately 100 live-scan electronic fingerprint systems.
"New products such as the SQUID unit and otherS currently in development will give Digital Biometrics the opportunity to continue a leadership position in fingerprint identification technology. The live- scan industry will pay an increasingly important role in aiding law enforcement officers perform their duties in a more efficient and cost- effective manner."
