DIGITAL BIOMETRICS ANNOUNCES LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT SELECTION

MINNETONKA, Minn., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Biometrics, Inc. (NASDAQ: DBII), a Minnetonka-based manufacturer of "live-scan" electronic fingerprint systems, today announced that the company has been notified by the County of Los Angeles Internal Services Department that it has been selected to enter into contract negotiations for installation of a "live-scan" fingerprint network system in Los Angeles County.
Digital Biometrics, which had fiscal 1992 revenues of $3,040,000, stated that the Los Angeles County selection is subject to final contract negotiation, however, the company's bid was for approximately 100 TENPRINTER(R) systems at a proposed price of $5.2 million, including sales tax and five years of equipment maintenance. The company's current installed base totals 125 TENPRINTER systems in 22 states and four foreign countries.
Jack A. Klingert, president and chief executive officer of Digital Biometrics, said, "Upon successful contract negotiation, this order will represent the largest to date in the live-scan fingerprint industry and is further verification of law enforcement's commitment to an advanced technology which is at the forefront of fully automating the fingerprint identification process."
The TENPRINTER systems, when installed in Los Angeles County, will be networked to central site communication concentrator and printer server equipment. The networking capabilities of the TENPRINTER system allow operators to fingerprint a person in one location and transmit fingerprint cards to wherever they are needed. Fingerprints printed at all locations are identical in every way. Every printed card is an "original," generated from the same data. Print locations are programmed into the TENPRINTER system so no operator instruction is required.
Added Klingert, "Upon successful contract negotiation, this order will represent the fourth major metropolitan area in the United States to convert to electronic fingerprinting through installation of multiple systems connected to central site printer server equipment. It is very gratifying that all have selected Digital Biometrics, Inc. as supplier of this advanced technology."
