DIGITAL'S PATHWORKS AND PC INTEGRATION BUSINESS POST CONTINUED HIGH GROWTH

MAYNARD, Mass. -- Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC) reports that its PATHWORKS family of PC LAN integration products experienced an annual growth of 34 percent for PC client licenses shipped in the calendar year ending December 1992. Growth for the third and fourth quarters of 1992 together represents a 41 percent growth over the same two quarters the previous year. PATHWORKS, with an installed base of over 1.5 million PC users, is the company's highest growth and highest unit volume software, and continues to be a profitable business.
PATHWORKS growth outpaced growth in the total worldwide PC LAN market in 1992, estimated at 19.7 percent by market research firm International Data Corporation. Industry watcher Computer Intelligence, in a 1992 study, cited PATHWORKS as one of the top three PC local area networks, with 12 percent of the Fortune 1000 market by year-end 1991. A 1992 Business Research Group study of federal government agencies shows PATHWORKS with 21 percent of the LAN operating systems in this market segment.
"The demand for PC integration among Fortune 1000 class organizations worldwide is growing tremendously," said Vijay Thakur, recently named Director of Networking Software and PC Integration Business/Marketing. "The ability of PATHWORKS to interconnect PC LANs from multiple vendors and give PC users increased access to corporate systems and information gives Digital a distinct advantage and is the reason our business is growing."
PATHWORKS sales directly contributed to sales of other Digital products including client/server software, PC LAN servers and add-ons, network components, and services. PATHWORKS sales thus leveraged over $1 billion in revenues in calendar year 1992.
