DIGIBOARD INTRODUCES 2-PORT, HIGH-SPEED INTELLIGENT BOARD WINDOWS AND LAN USERS CAN NOW ACHIEVE 115KBPS MODEM COMMUNICATIONS

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 2 ~PRNewswire~ -- DigiBoard, the leading provider of connectivity solutions for multiuser microcomputer systems, introduces a two-port Intelligent Async Board named the PC~2e. DigiBoard has traditionally offered 4-, 8- and 16-port versions of their standard and intelligent boards. The PC~2e offers two intelligent serial ports with an 80186 microprocessor which relieves the host CPU of the communications tasks.
"The PC~2e product is noteworthy in that it brings Digi technology, which has traditionally been targeted at high-end communications integrators and network VARs to the emerging 'entry level' market for high-speed serial communications." stated John Gaylord, product Manager for DigiBoard Async Products. "Async connections to LANS and Windows are growing dramatically and the need for an intelligent two-port board can be illustrated with two simple examples: Remote access needs and the impact of Windows on data communications."
 1. Remote Access: Often a company has satellite offices needing
only a few ports to provide access to the headquarters or a
small office may need to provide remote access to one or two
 lap-top users.
 2. Windows: Windows' popularity is expanding the market for
intelligent async boards. Windows users with high speed modems
are discovering that the serial ports on their systems are a
bottleneck, slowing the throughput promised by their modems.
Off-loading the I~O to an intelligent board frees the CPU for
the demands of the multitasking software.
Joe Owen of XcelleNet Inc., a communications software firm in Atlanta, will recommend the DigiBoard PC~2e to his customers. "We need an intelligent communications device that allows us to capture the data from high-speed modems and not kill the host processor in doing it," he said.
The PC~2e will ship with drivers for Microsoft's Windows and will support Windows 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups. Support for Windows NT, Novell's NetWare, OS~2 and LAN Manager will also be available. It is priced at $299 and will be available in January through resellers, distributors and VARs.
DigiBoard, a division of Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII), manufactures a suite of connectivity solutions for multiuser systems, LANs and WANs on the ISA, EISA, MCA and NuBus platforms. Recent industry surveys rank DigiBoard multiport boards as the multiport solutions most frequently recommended and installed by systems integrators. The firm's technical support is the finest in the industry. DigiBoard markets these products through an international network of distributors.
