DIGI INTERNATIONAL DIVISION ANNOUNCES DUAL IMAC FOR HIGH-SPEED TRANSPARENT CONNECTIVITY FOR ETHERNET LANS

DIGI INTERNATIONAL DIVISION ANNOUNCES DUAL IMAC FOR HIGH-SPEED
 TRANSPARENT CONNECTIVITY FOR ETHERNET LANS
MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The DigiBoard division of Digi International Inc. (NASDAQ: DGII) today announced the availability of its Dual IMAC, which employs ISDN to provide increased transmission speeds for transparently connecting Ethernet LANs. This product is being demonstrated at the Interop trade show, October 28-30, in San Francisco.
Dual IMAC is an integrated ISDN terminal adapter/Ethernet LAN bridge that transmits data at up to 224 Kbps over ISDN voice calls and up to 256 Kbps for ISDN data calls. These speeds approximate the speed of Ethernet transmission and translate into local performance for remote users.
Dual IMAC is designed to be connected to two ISDN Basic Rate Interface (BRI) phone lines, which deliver four 64 Kbps ISDN B channels. These four channels can be easily configured for simultaneous use to deliver 256 Kbps performance to one remote location or in combination to link as many as four separate remote locations. This flexibility allows users to provide more channels to support additional remote sites or larger channels for more demanding applications.
Dual IMAC is compatible with all CCITT/ANSI BRI ISDN central office switches, including AT&T's 5ESS, Northern Telecom's DMS100, National ISDN1 (NISDN1) services and switches from Siemens and British Telecom. It also works with any operating system and network operating system. The product is configured via English commands, either locally through the IMAC's built-in RS-232 port, or remotely by logging into IMAC across the Ethernet or ISDN link, using the industry standard TCP/IP protocol.
"Connecting remote local area networks has become a critical issue for businesses of all sizes," said Ham Mathews, general manager of DigiBoard's telecommunications group. "Our Dual IMAC solution provides significant cost savings over existing bridge/router solutions and offers superior performance through use of ISDN technology."
The Dual IMAC joins the single line IMAC, which provides price/performance leadership for linking smaller, remote LANs and workstations.
The Dual IMAC is priced at $2,795 (U.S.) and is available through a network of resellers.
Digi International is a leading provider of data communications hardware and software products. The company produces these communications subsystems under the DigiBoard and Arnet tradenames for the rapidly growing microcomputer-based multiuser and networked systems market.
