DIGI INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES ENHANCED NOVELL SUPPORT, INTRODUCES COMSTAX
 AT COMDEX TRADE SHOW
MINNEAPOLIS, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Digi International Inc. (NASDAQ: DGII), today announced enhanced support for Novell's range of asynchronous NetWare applications and also introduced the Arnet COMStax, a 20MHz IDT 3051 RISC-based intelligent communications controller, at Spring COMDEX '92 in Chicago. COMDEX, the largest computer trade show in the United States, runs through April 9.
Novell/DigiBoard Solution Expands NetWare LAN Access
The company's DigiBoard division is expanding its presence in the NetWare environment to include support for Novell's NetWare Asynchronous Communications Server (NACS) v3.0. NACS is a powerful server-based application that enables users to dial out of Novell LANs through modem pools. DigiBoard hardware will further support all of Novell's forthcoming AIO-aware applications.
"By supporting NACS v3.0, DigiBoard is providing those NetWare customers with large numbers of users the best price/performance adapter for asynchronous LAN communication," said Gerry Machi, vice president and general manager of Novell's NetWare Systems Group -- Sunnyvale. "In addition, because DigiBoard supports AIO, any new NetWare asynchronous products will automatically be supported."
Novell's Asynchronous Input/Output (AIO) specification, which provides the NetWare environment with a single point of control through which all asynchronous communication services can be accessed, allows DigiBoard solutions to provide AIO-aware applications with access to a large number of serial ports. The AIO-compliant driver is available immediately at no charge to DigiBoard customers.
"Novell's software has a reputation for quality and we are confident that the combination of NACS v3.0, NetWare and the DigiBoard communication boards will provide users with the best asynchronous LAN solutions possible," said Mike Moroz, Digi International's chief executive officer.
Arnet Adds COMStax to Product Line
Arnet Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Digi International, introduced COMStax, a RISC-based intelligent communications controller, the latest addition to its complete line of multiuser connectivity solutions. It allows up to 128 connections per slot at greatly increased transmission speeds with minimal additional cost. COMStax is backwardly compatible with Arnet's external DB-25 connector boxes. This allows current users to upgrade existing systems without having to rewire their terminal, printer or modem connections. COMStax is slated to be available in June 1992.
Said Gary Deaner, president of Arnet, "The added capabilities in terms of speed and performance that we gain with our new COMStax RISC- based board allow us to easily keep pace with the overall technology advances we see emerging today. The IDT 3051 processor gives us the most effective cost/performance option currently available. In addition, the backward compatibility we've built in protects our users' original investment."
Headquartered in suburban Minneapolis, Digi International Inc. is a leading provider of data communications hardware and software products that permit microcomputers to function as multiuser systems in a variety of operating system environments. The company produces these communications subsystems under the DigiBoard and Arnet trade names for the rapidly growing multiuser microcomputer connectivity market.
