A Californian man ate 103 burgers in just eight minutes to set a new world record. Joey Chestnut smashed the previous record of 97 burgers to win the Krystal Square Off World Hamburger Eating Championship. The previous record was held by a Japanese man who won all three previous championships, but didn't compete this year after having a wisdom tooth extracted.

An Iowa man was shot in the leg by a dog while out hunting. The accident happened after James Harris put his gun on the ground to retrieve a fallen pheasant. One of the hunting dogs behind him stepped on the trigger and up to 120 birdshot pellets hit him in the left calf at short range. The man was treated at hospital.
