 DIAMOND-STAR MOTORS CELEBRATES 500,000TH VEHICLE
EVENT IS COMMEMORATED WITH CONTRIBUTION TO BEYOND THE BOOKS
NORMAL, Ill., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Diamond-Star Motors Corp. (DSM) celebrates production of the 500,000th vehicle, a red Mitsubishi Eclipse turbo, manufactured at its Normal, Ill., facility.
DSM President and CEO Tsuneo Ohinouye noted, "We have accomplished much since Job 1 in September 1988. In four short years, we have established DSM as a world-class facility producing cars that are consistently in the 'Top Ten' lists of auto enthusiast magazines around the world.
"Our success has been the result of the commitment made by each of our 3,100 employees and our exceptional suppliers who continuously search for ways to improve our process and our product," added Ohinouye. "It is with this commitment that we will launch the next generation of DSM vehicles and achieve production of our one millionth vehicle."
DONATION PRESENTED TO BEYOND THE BOOKS
In honor of the celebration, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) and DSM have pledged a $50,000 donation to Beyond the Books, a newly formed, all volunteer foundation established to enhance educational programs in the community's District 87 and Unit 5 public schools. The contribution includes an immediate $25,000 donation from MMC to be matched by a $25,000 five-year commitment from Diamond-Star.
Accepting for Beyond the Books, Foundation President Dan Leifel expressed the organization's appreciation, stating, "Mitsubishi Motors and Diamond-Star are among the first corporations to provide their personal and financial support to Beyond the Books. This generous contribution will help us provide unique enrichment programs and services that our children might otherwise not be able to access. On behalf of the children, the parents, the teachers and the members of the community who will benefit from this support, I sincerely thank you.''
 MMC PRESIDENT PRAISED MILESTONE ACCOMPLISHMENT
The DSM 500,000 celebration featured special guest speakers including Dr. Hirokazu Nakamura, president of Mitsubishi Motors Corp. "Diamond-Star brought this vehicle from the drawing board to driveways across America, Japan and Europe," said Nakamura. "In a few short years, and in a very tough and competitive market, DSM has delivered a winner that earns high praise from customers and from respected car enthusiast magazines."
