DIAMOND SHAMROCK TO CONSTRUCT NEW PRODUCTS PIPELINE TO COLORADO
SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Diamond Shamrock (NYSE: DRM) officials today announced plans to construct a major refined products pipeline from its McKee refinery in the Texas Panhandle to the Colorado Springs area.
Senior Vice President Bob Mehall explained, "We have a growing presence in the state of Colorado, which, with the shutdown of refining capacity in the Rocky Mountain states, creates an increasing demand for refined products in the Colorado Front Range and Rocky Mountain region."
The new 254-mile, 10-inch pipeline will have an initial capacity of 32,000 barrels per day (BPD) when it is completed in mid-1993 but can be expanded to over 50,000 BPD. Mehall added that the refined products terminal location for the pipeline has not yet been decided, and the company is investigating several sites.
Diamond Shamrock currently owns approximately 30 percent of a 41,500 BPD products pipeline from the Texas Panhandle to Denver, as well as pipelines connecting its McKee refinery to Dallas, Turpin, Amarillo, Albuquerque, and Lubbock. The McKee refinery is recognized as one of the most efficient refineries in the industry and it currently has a throughput capacity of 120,000 BPD.
