DIAMOND SHAMROCK COMPLETES NEW CRUDE OIL PIPELINE
SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Diamond Shamrock officials today announced the start-up of its 270-mile crude oil pipeline from Wichita Falls, Texas, to the company's McKee refinery in the Texas Panhandle. The new 14-inch pipeline has an initial capacity of 53,000 barrels per day with a potential capacity of 100,000 barrels per day.
Diamond Shamrock Senior Vice President Bob Mehall said that the 14- inch pipeline enhances the flexibility of the refinery's crude supply by accessing both sweet and sour crude oil from foreign sources and from the West Texas oil fields.
"The pipeline is part of Diamond Shamrock's long-term strategy to provide the McKee refinery with a crude oil supply well into the next century," Mehall explained. "It will give us flexibility to utilize the most economic crude oil slate available while ensuring an adequate crude oil supply."
At Wichita Falls, the pipeline has the capability to access both the Arco and Texaco pipelines, which bring crude oil from the Texas Gulf Coast into the Mid-Continent region. It will also be able to receive crude oil from the Basin Pipeline, which transports crude oil from major West Texas oil fields.
The McKee plant, which is located in the Texas Panhandle, is the larger of Diamond Shamrock's two refineries. It has a throughput of 115,000 barrels per day and supplies refined products to a four-state area.
Diamond Shamrock, Inc., with annual sales of $2.6 billion, is a regional refiner and marketer of petroleum products. The San Antonio- based corporation has two Texas refineries, markets gasoline through approximately 2,000 Diamond Shamrock branded outlets, manufactures and markets petrochemicals, and stores and markets natural gas liquids.
