DIAMOND COMPUTER SYSTEMS LOWERS PRICES AND IMPROVES PERFORMANCE ON GRAPHICS ACCELERATORS

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Diamond Computer Systems Inc. has announced retail price reductions to its family of graphics accelerator cards. The new pricing affects the company's Viper VLB (VESA Local Bus) and Stealth Pro accelerator cards. Additionally, the Viper VLB now offers new drivers which improve the card's speed to an industry-leading 60 million Winmarks. Diamond's graphics accelerator cards enhance the graphical performance of Windows and AutoCAD in personal computers by off-loading the graphics processing function from the system CPU.
The standard list price for the Stealth Pro with 2MB of memory was reduced from $499 to $449, and the 1MB version was changed from $349 to $299. The Viper VLB, with 2MB of VRAM, previously $549, now carries a list price of $499, and the 1MB version price was reduced from $449 to $399.
Furthermore, the Viper VLB now performs 20 percent faster with Windows applications and, on average, twice as fast with AutoCAD. Previously clocking 50 million Winmarks, the Viper VLB with new drivers achieves 60 million Winmarks. This performance enhancement gives the Viper VLB an even greater margin to its position as the world's fastest graphic accelerator for the PC market. For AutoCAD, Diamond has adopted a customized version of Vibrant Graphics' SoftEngine to achieve these performance gains.
According to Joseph O'Neill, executive vice president of sales and marketing, "These price reductions coupled with performance improvements reaffirm Diamond's commitment to provide our customers the best value in graphics accelerator products."
Established in 1982, Diamond Computer Systems Inc. designs, manufactures and markets video graphics adapters, multimedia products and motherboards in Sunnyvale. Diamond's products are sold through regional, national and international distributors as well as to Original Equipment Manufacturers.
