DIAL A PRINCIPAL WITH EDUCATION QUESTIONS ON TOLL-FREE HOTLINE

SAN FRANCISCO, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Do you have a question, dilemma or suggestion about preschool, elementary or middle school education? Call a school principal on the toll-free National Principals' Hotline at the National Association of Elementary School Principals' annual convention in San Francisco. The number is 800-944-1601 and will be in operation on Sunday, March 28, and Monday, March 29, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Time.
Now in its fourth year, the National Principals' Hotline, considered a public service, encourages parents and others to take an interest in American children and their schools. Last year principals answered 1,350 calls. This year 144 principals will man 12 phone lines to counsel parents, grandparents, children, anyone who needs information on education or children in the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska and Canada.
"The family is as much a part of a child's education as the school," said Samuel G. Sava, NAESP's executive director. He pointed out that the hotline is an effective way to help parents who might feel intimidated by school officials or shy about asking offbeat or seemingly innocuous questions. "The hotline gives parents -- and other interested folks who might hesitate to call or visit school -- the chance to get good advice from an expert. Every question about your child is important to us."
The hotline is co-sponsored by Family Circle Magazine and made possible by a grant from World Book Educational Products. Each caller will receive a free copy of "The Little Things Make a Big Difference," a booklet (in English or Spanish) of common-sense tips for parents produced by NAESP and World Book.
Established in 1921, the National Association of Elementary School Principals is a professional education association serving 26,000 educators in the United States, Canada and overseas.
