DG E&T directs DO E&T to expedite tax collection.

LAHORE, May 10, 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- The Excise and Taxation Department,Punjab,on the special directive of the Chief Minister,has directed all Directors and District Officers (Excise and Taxation ) to expedite the stuck up arrears and piled up taxes from the defaulters on top priority. The newly appointed DG,E &T,Punjab,Usman Sarosh Alvi while taking to reporter on Sunday said that Minister and Secretary, Excise and Taxation have directed to expedite the recovery of all pending arrears from the defaulters. He said mobile teams constituted under the supervision of Excise and Taxation Officer, would conduct surprise visits. About the token tax, he said excise officials will only check the documents whether token tax has been paid or not if not the owners/drivers will be given final warning to clear all dues immediately otherwise vehicle in question will be impounded and will not be released unless entire amount of token tax is paid. He said Secretary Excise and Taxation Hasan Nawaz Tarar has given target of tax collection to all Directors and District Officers to be achieved before the end of current fiscal year. He said that all officers have also been directed not to succumb to any sort of pressure in tax collection. He said that all tax defaulters irrespective of their social status be taken to task and should never be released from custody unless the entire tax is paid lump sum. Usman Sarosh Alvi said that a modern computerised network has been installed at directorate general to monitor the overall performance of all districts. DG said that it has now been decided in principle that officials showing excellent result will be rewarded while those failing to achieve the target will be taken to task which will include their shifting to desk work instead of field job.
