DEXPO ADDS FIRST OPEN SYSTEMS CONFERENCE TO ITS TRADE SHOW

DALLAS, March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Miller Freeman, Inc., today announced the addition of a comprehensive open systems conference to its established DEXPO trade show. The new conference targets CIOs and MIS professionals with technical tutorials and business tracks designed to facilitate the integration of DEC systems and other vendors' equipment. Typically, today's DEC user also has equipment from HP, IBM and a host of other vendors. This has long been the case, but the concern of the 1990s is to integrate all of this equipment into one consistent corporate utility and asset.
"The DEXPO conference tracks focus on technology, system integration and business matters as they relate to DEC markets and technologies," said Harvey J. Hindin, chairman of DEXPO's conference advisory board. "These three tracks will have a common theme -- the use of standards- based open systems as an integration paradigm for those users who own or will be purchasing DEC products. The conference is designed for mid-to upper-level information managers or information systems strategic planners in large user organizations."
Presentations from the Open Software Foundation, X/Open, Unix International, the SQL Access group, and other practically-oriented standards groups and consortia will address all of the major user 'ability' concerns. IBM and HP will present sessions on how users can integrate DEC products with their products and those of other vendors as well. DEC and Nynex will also present similar sessions.
Confirmed speakers and instructors at the conference include many industry luminaries such as Eric Keller, computer integrated manufacturing service program director, Gartner Group; George Hayes, standards consultant for DEC; Dennis Eskow, deputy editor, Corporate Computing; Michael Parker, software deployment tools product manager, Texas Instruments; Lou Pilla, editor-in-chief, DEC professional; Chris Christianson, research director of commercial multi-user systems, International Data Corporation; Ken Hedberg, engineering program manager, DEC; Rosanne Wyleczuk, worldwide product marketing manager, Hewlett-Packard; and Keith Walls chief executive officer, Insoft Limited.
"We have carefully analyzed the present and future needs of DEC users. The combination of show floor exhibits and technical presentations will address these needs in a thorough, enlightened manner," said Jim Wurm, Miller Freeman's group show director.
Also planned for DEXPO this coming spring is an executive forum that includes a panel of securities analysts and a panel of market research analysts. Both panels will be moderated by journalists. Look for additional announcements from Miller Freeman as the final line-up of DEXPO presenters, topics, panelists, moderators, tutorials and exhibitors becomes available.
DEXPO, the premier exhibition and conference event for the DEC open systems marketplace, will take place June 7-10, 1993, at the Inforum in Atlanta.
