DEVRY REPORTS SUMMER TERM ENROLLMENT INCREASES
OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill., Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- DeVry Inc.

(NASDAQ: DVRY) today reported new student enrollment of 5,911 for the summer 1992 term at DeVry Institutes. This represents a 1.5 percent increase over the same term last year when 5,822 new students were enrolled. It is the sixth consecutive term to exceed prior year results in new student enrollment, with the highest number of new students enrolled for a summer term since 1983.
Total student enrollment reached 22,531 in summer 1992, compared with 21,836 in the summer 1991 term -- a 3.2 percent overall increase.
"As we complete our first year as a public company, the new student enrollment increase reflects the successful implementation of our long-term growth strategy of providing quality applications-oriented educational programs.," DeVry Inc. President Ronald L. Taylor said. "This consistent growth pattern is a trend that began with the fall 1990 term.
"We are pleased with these comparative recruiting results because the 1991 new student summer term increase of 15 percent was so unusually large," Taylor said.
Factors also contributing to the enrollment increase include a growing demand for employees with technical skills combined with a higher education degree, downsizing of the U.S. armed forces and current economic conditions, according to Taylor. Trends favorable to DeVry are expected to continue through the rest of the decade.
DeVry Inc., headquartered in Oakbrook Terrace, owns and operates the DeVry Institutes and the Keller Graduate School of Management. It is one of the largest private degree-granting higher education systems in North America.
DeVry Institutes offer bachelor's degree programs in electronics engineering technology, computer information systems, accounting, business operations and telecommunications management, as well as an associate degree program for electronic technicians.
DeVry campuses are located in Atlanta; Chicago and Lombard, Ill.; Columbus, Ohio; Dallas; Kansas City, Mo.; Los Angeles; Phoenix; Woodbridge, N.J.; and Calgary and Toronto.
