DEVRY REPORTS 6.6 PERCENT INCREASE IN NEW STUDENT ENROLLMENT

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- DeVry Inc. (NASDAQ: DVRY), a system of career-oriented higher education institutes, today reported that new student enrollment at the DeVry Institutes for the summer 1993 term increased 6.6 percent. In July 1993, 6,300 new students enrolled compared with 5911 for the same term last year. This is the highest number of new students enrolled for a summer term in 10 years.
Total student enrollment reached 23,788 in summer 1993, compared with 22,531 in summer 1992, a 5.6 percent increase over last year. This is the eighth consecutive term to exceed prior year results in total student enrollment, and it is the largest number of total enrollments in a summer class since 1986.
"This new student enrollment increase reflects the successful implementation of our recruiting and marketing efforts," says DeVry President Ronald L. Taylor. "Also, DeVry's outstanding history of graduate placement continues to be a major contributor to our steady enrollment growth. Our most recent statistics show that more than 91 percent of DeVry students who graduated in 1992 and actively pursued employment began education-related careers within six months of graduation.
"These factors are enhanced by the recent reaccreditation of DeVry Institutes for the maximum 10-year period by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools," Taylor says. "Because this collegiate accreditation is recognized by the academic community, employers and the public as a measure of excellence in education, we believe that it supports the student's decision to attend DeVry."
DeVry Institutes offer bachelor's degree programs in electronics engineering technology, computer information systems, business operations, telecommunications management and accounting, plus an associate degree program for electronics technicians. DeVry is one of the largest private degree-granting higher education systems in North America.
