DEVRY MARKS 60 YEARS WITH FIRST PUBLIC ANNUAL MEETING
CHICAGO, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- DeVry Inc. (NASDAQ: DVRY), one of the largest private degree-granting educational systems in North America, today held its first annual meeting of stockholders. The 60-year-old company made its initial public offering of common stock in June of this year.
After tracing the growth and development of the DeVry Institutes and Keller Graduate School of Management, Chairman Dennis Keller told shareholders that the company expects to thrive on developing changes. "Several environmental trends in the 1990s -- an increasing number of high school graduates, greater demand for technically skilled professionals, and downsizing of the military -- should benefit DeVry significantly," he stated.
DeVry President Ronald L. Taylor noted, "The 1990s promise to be an exciting time for us. In today's economic climate, companies are seeking to reach new levels of efficiency and productivity, and DeVry is prepared to provide technically skilled professionals who are capable of immediately contributing to their companies' objectives." Shareholders elected 10 directors and ratified the appointment of Price Waterhouse as the company's independent auditors.
In keeping with management's optimistic outlook for the future, the company signed an agreement in September for the construction and lease of a new DeVry campus in Addison, Ill., a suburb of Chicago, to replace the existing leased DeVry Institute in Lombard, Ill. This modern building will provide a more technologically advanced environment as well as increased space. Occupancy is expected before the start of DeVry's fall term in November 1992.
Similarly, last week DeVry signed a long-term lease for its headquarters at Oakbrook Terrace Tower in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. The company, currently headquartered in Evanston, Ill., plans to occupy the nearly 74,000-square-foot office space and an adjoining underground processing facility in March 1992.
DeVry Inc. provides technically oriented and advanced management educational programs through its DeVry Institutes and Keller Graduate Schools of Management located across the United States and in Canada.
