DEVELOPMENT AND LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR PACIFIC ASIA IN THE FAST GROWING U.S. FRESH BEVERAGE SECTOR

VANCOUVER, B.C., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Pacific Asia Technologies Inc. (VSE: PFT.V) today announced it has concluded a development and license agreement with a California based juice extraction company. The new agreement provides for the development and launch over the next six months of specialty juice blends using Pacific Asia's MAPTEK FRESH technology. The development costs will be shared equally.
This agreement includes a license to produce fresh orange and apple juices using Pacific Asia's MAPTEK FRESH technology. The licensee has marketed its specialty juices for some time on the West Coast of the United States. Juice blends, sometimes called "smoothies," are an important growth area in the U.S. and European beverage industries. MAPTEK FRESH will enable them to market these new drinks throughout the U.S., Japan and other overseas markets. The greatly extended shelf life which MAPTEK FRESH provides, in a purely natural way, will allow all the juices to be shipped by sea and still arrive fresh.
MAPTEK FRESH is a post harvest life extension technology which modifies the environment in which fresh produce is packaged. This has the effect of extending the shelf life in a similar way to hibernation, so that from shipping to after the opening of the package the product is fresh and wholesome.
The basis of this technology is modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), an entirely natural procedure which has many current applications in the fresh produce industry. The big difference between traditional MAP and MAPTEK FRESH is that the produce can be kept fresh for many weeks rather than days, allowing fresh juice and cut produce to be distributed internationally at lower cost.
MAPTEK FRESH and its associated technology for whole produce, TAMFRESH, have received significant publicity in the trade and national press on both sides of the Atlantic in recent weeks with the launch of Necta sliced pineapples in the U.K. by Geest plc., one of Europe's largest produce companies, and the launch of MAPTEK FRESH citrus juices on the U.S. East Coast. Necta pineapples are cut ripe and packed in Costa Rica before shipment to Europe by sea while MAPTEK FRESH citrus juices are now produced in both Florida and California and are soon to be available nationwide in the U.S. and Canada.
