DETROIT TESTING LAB'S ROGER AMOROSI RECEIVES LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

WARREN, Mich., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Roger J. Amorosi, P.E., vice president of Detroit Testing Laboratory, Warren, has been named a Fellow by the American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL).
The Fellow Award is ACIL's highest honor. It is granted to individuals who have exhibited extraordinary leadership within the laboratory profession, through involvement in industry organizations, recognized technical accomplishments, contributions to the laboratory industry, business achievement and peer esteem. Amorosi received his award at a Sept. 13 awards banquet during ACIL's 56th Annual Meeting in Beaver Creek, Colo.
Amorosi has distinguished himself particularly in the field of laboratory accreditation. As chairman of ACIL's Laboratory Accreditation Committee in the mid-1970s, he helped build support for a national system to recognize laboratory competence.
Amorosi's efforts led to the 1978 founding of the American Association of Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), an independent national organization that accredits laboratories in a variety of testing disciplines. Amorosi served as A2LA chairman during that organization's pivotal first years.
Amorosi's interest in laboratory accreditation followed and paralleled leadership positions in other organizations during the 1980s. He served as a board member of both the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). Amorosi was also a director of the National Fire Protection Association and founder and the first national president of the Institute of Environmental Sciences.
Within ACIL, Amorosi served on the board of directors for nine years, including a term as association president from 1980-82. During his presidency, ACIL established its own offices and hired its first full-time staff.
Amorosi is currently DTL's senior vice president responsible for developing international business and third-party certification programs. DTL specializes in automotive and consumer product testing and is celebrating its 90th year as an independent testing laboratory.
Amorosi holds bachelor and master degrees in electrical engineering from Cornell University. He is a member of ASTM, the Society of Automotive Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He is the author of numerous papers on environmental and electrical testing, laboratory management, advertising claims, certification and labeling services.
The ACIL is a national trade association representing third-party engineering and scientific laboratory, testing, research and development and consulting companies. Since its founding in 1937, ACIL has promoted professional, ethical and good business practices among its members and throughout the industry.
