DETROIT EDISON RATED AMONG TOP 10 IN POWER PLANT EFFICIENCY
DETROIT, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Detroit Edison Company (NYSE: DTE) is rated among the top 10 electric utilities in the nation for power plant operating efficiency, according to an independent survey by Electric Light & Power magazine, a utility trade publication.
The overall ranking includes Detroit Edison's Fermi 2 nuclear plant and the company's seven fossil fuel facilities. It is based on a utility's "heat rate" performance, which measures the amount of energy (Btu) needed to generate a kilowatthour of electricity.
"Our plants are designed and operated for good heat rate performance," said Frank E. Agosti, senior vice president. "By efficiently operating and maintaining the plants we are able to optimize heat rates and reduce fuel costs."
In a separate measure, Detroit Edison's coal-fired Monroe Power Plant Unit 3 was ranked ninth in the magazine's list of the top 20 generating units in the United States.
