 DETROIT EDISON PAID $174 MILLION IN 1991 PROPERTY TAXES
 DETROIT, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Detroit Edison (NYSE: DTE) paid


$174 million in 1991 property taxes on power plants and other facilities, benefiting nearly 400 communities in 17 counties. About 68 percent of the total, or $118 million, will benefit education in southeastern Michigan.
 The utility is second only to General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) in the amount of property taxes paid in Michigan.
 The largest portion of Detroit Edison's property taxes -- $55.5 million -- was paid in Monroe County. Of that amount, $36.3 million went to the county's schools. Monroe County is the site of the utility's Fermi 2 and Monroe power plants.
 Wayne County communities received a total of $44.4 million in property taxes from Detroit Edison, with $25.8 million going to schools. The company's major properties in Wayne County include its downtown Detroit headquarters and its downriver Trenton Channel and River Rouge power plants.
 St. Clair County communities received a total of $31.2 million, with $23.9 million benefiting schools. The utility's Belle River and St. Clair power plants are in St. Clair County.
 Oakland County's total was $16.7 million, with $11.9 million earmarked for education. Macomb County received $10.1 million with $7.7 million benefiting schools.
