DETROIT EDISON OCTOBER SALES HOLD STEADY
 DETROIT, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Detroit Edison's electricity sales

were nearly equal to year-ago levels in October, helped by increases in sales to commercial and industrial customers.
Total system sales -- those to customers in southeastern Michigan -- were 3.34 billion kilowatthours (kWh) last month, down 0.7 percent from October 1991.
Sales to industrial customers, auto plants included, rose 1.4 percent from October 1991, despite steel producers using nearly 10 percent less electricity than last year. Automotive customers used 0.3 percent more electricity last month than in October 1991, the first gain in four months.
Commercial customers, meanwhile, used 2.2 percent more electricity than in October 1991. However, residential sales slipped 0.8 percent from the same month last year.
Total October sales -- including sales to other utilities -- fell 10.8 percent to 3.52 billion kWh.
Year to date, the company's system sales in southeastern Michigan through October were down 2.1 percent from the first 10 months of 1991 -- 33.77 billion kWh in 1992 compared with 34.48 billion kWh in 1991. Total sales for the period were 36.6 billion kWh, off 6.8 percent from 39.25 billion kWh during the first 10 months of 1991.
