DETROIT EDISON CUSTOMERS CAN ENROLL IN 'BUDGETWISE BILLING' PROGRAM

DETROIT, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- When managing household bills, the fewer surprises the better. That's why Detroit Edison (NYSE: DTE) has introduced "BudgetWise Billing," which allows customers to pay their electric bills in equal monthly installments.
"BudgetWise Billing eliminates fluctuations in monthly electric bills due to use of seasonal appliances," said A. Robert Pierce, manager of Marketing for Detroit Edison. "As a result, customers can better plan for their energy and other household expenses."
Detroit Edison residential customers whose account balances are paid can enroll their main accounts in the program.
Under BudgetWise Billing, Detroit Edison estimates participating customers' electricity use for a year, then bills them in 11 equal monthly installments. In the 12th, or settlement month, customers receive bills reconciling the differences between their estimated and actual uses of electricity. Customers will either pay their "settlement month" bills or receive refunds or credits. To avoid large settlement bills, Detroit Edison will review bill estimates in the sixth month and make adjustments if necessary.
"This program is the first in a family of new billing services Detroit Edison is considering," Pierce said. "Detroit Edison is looking at a variety of optional billing services for introduction in the near future."
Detroit Edison is testing the BudgetWise Billing program through March by sending promotional materials to a limited number of customers, he said. Those customers can enroll by checking a special box on their electric bills. Customers who do not receive the materials can enroll by calling 1-800-395-5582, a special toll-free number designated for this program. For information about other Detroit Edison services, call the regular phone number, 1-800-477-4747.
