 DETROIT EDISON CHAIRMAN TO EXPLAIN WHAT CEO WANTS FROM IR
 IN MAY 5 NIRI PRESENTATION
 DETROIT, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- John E. Lobbia, chairman, president and chief executive officer of the Detroit Edison Company (NYSE: DTE), will explain "What a CEO Wants from Investor Relations and Communications Practitioners" at the May 5 luncheon meeting of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI).
 "John Lobbia will provide valuable insights into the role IR and public relations people should play in helping organizations achieve their objectives," said Mary Ann Robb, president of NIRI's Detroit Chapter and director of Corporate Communications for Somanetics Corp.
 A career executive with southeastern Michigan's electric utility, Lobbia began in 1964 as an associate primary service engineer in the sales department. He advanced through various engineering and operations positions to vice president, Financial Services in 1984. In May 1987, Lobbia was elected executive vice president responsible for corporate planning. He was elected president and CEO in 1988 and was elected chairman, president and CEO in 1990.
 A strong promoter of civic and community involvement by business, Lobbia is chairman of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, vice chairman of Detroit Renaissance and a director or trustee of numerous civic organizations such as the Greater Detroit Chamber of Commerce, New Detroit, Inc. and the United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
 He is a director of the National Bank of Detroit and a trustee of the University of Detroit Mercy and WTVS-TV (Ch. 56). In 1990, he received the B'Nai B'rith Great American Traditions Award and in 1989 was the recipient of the Italian American Man of the Year Award.
