 DETROIT, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- John Doddridge, Gary Jacobs and Joseph Welch have been elected to the Board of Directors of Detroit Diesel Corporation (NYSE: DDC). The appointments were unanimously approved today at a meeting of the company's Board of Directors in Detroit and became effective immediately.
 The new directors were nominated in conjunction with other changes to the composition of the Board following the company's recent public offering of common shares. Those changes bring the current board membership to a total of nine.

"The broad and diverse backgrounds of these individuals will add to our business and help in our efforts to strengthen Detroit Diesel's competitiveness in both new and existing markets."
 John Doddridge is the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Magna International of Southfield, Michigan. Mr. Doddridge was formerly president of North American Operations and a member of the Policy Committee of Dana Corporation, a global manufacturer of automotive components. He began his career with Dana in 1964. Mr. Doddridge is currently chairman of the executive committee of the Highway Users Federation and is also a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the Motor Equipment Manufacturers' Association (MEMA) and the MEMA/Japanese Automotive Manufacturers' Association Liaison Committee.
 Gary Jacobs is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Laredo National Bancshares, Inc., and The Laredo National Bank in Laredo, Texas. Mr. Jacbos has been with the institution since 1969. Previously, he was with the El Paso National Bank in El Paso, Texas. A native of San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Jacobs has been actively involved in the promotion of industrial development and trade between the United States and Mexico. He serves as director on several boards, including the NAFTA and Beyond Commission (CSIS/Carter Institute), Texas A&M International University Foundation and the Texas Business Hall of Fame.
 Joseph Welch is the owner and chief executive officer of J.F. Welch Interests, Inc., a diversified holding company whose wholly-owned subsidiaries include: The Bachman Company, the Welch Company, the Pretzel Store and Welch Properties. Mr. Welch's previous business experience includes being president of Penske Corporation and president of Windsor Knitting Mill, Inc. Mr. Welch's current activities include serving as chairman of the Business Advisory Council of the College of Business & Economics of Lehigh University, a member of the Board of Directors of the Snack Food Association and a member of the Berks Divisional Board of Meridian Bank.
 Detroit Diesel Corporation is engaged in the design, manufacture, sales and service of heavy-duty diesel engines and engine parts. The company offers a complete line of diesel engines ranging from 5 to 2500 horsepower for the on-highway truck; coach and bus; construction, mining and industrial; power generation; marine; and military markets. The company had 1992 revenues of $1.4 billion.
