 DETROIT AUTO DEALERS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES
 WINNERS OF ITS HIGH SCHOOL AND OPEN SHORT STORY CONTESTS
 TROY, Mich., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Detroit Auto Dealers Association, sponsor of the North American International Auto Show, announced the winners of its sixth high school short story contest and its eighth open short story contest for Michigan residents.
 For the high school competition, five winners were chosen and each received $500 for their outstanding manuscripts. The five winners were:
 -- Jill Hinton of Troy, a sophomore at Athens High School. Hinton enjoys writing stories as a hobby.
 -- Kim Sanders of Columbiaville, a sophomore at Lapeer West High School. Sanders writes as a hobby and plans to study engineering or architecture in college.
 -- Kirsten Schutt of Farmington Hills, a senior at North Farmington High School. Schutt plans to attend college and major in journalism or broadcast journalism.
 -- Aimee St. Pierre of Williamston, a senior at Williamston High School. St. Pierre writes stories as a hobby and will attend Michigan State University/Lyman Briggs in the fall to major in medical technology.
 -- Natasha Yates of Bloomfield Hills, a freshman at Andover High School. Yates writes stories as a hobby.
 In addition to the high school winners, three winners were determined for the open competition:
 -- First place was awarded to Kim Davis of Detroit. She won $1,000 for her winning story titled "Bleeding." Davis is a part-time student studying English at Wayne State University and also works at WSU in the Human Resources Department.
 -- Second place was awarded to Carol Carpenter of Livonia who won $500 for her story "Aunt Hattie Visits." Carpenter is principal and vice president of the High Performance Group and is a past winner of the short story contest.
 -- Third place was awarded to Alan Overway of Holland who won $250 for his story "The Asparagus Garden." Overway enjoys writing stories as a hobby and is a sales order administrator in the Financial Services Department at Milcare/A Herman Miller Co., in Zeeland.
 Both the high school and the adult category contenders followed official rules and guidelines. For example, each manuscript had to be an original work of fiction and not exceed 2,500 words. Entries were judged by a panel comprised of Detroit editors and writers including Ruth Coughlin, Detroit News book critic; Jim McFarlin, Detroit News television/radio writer; Jane Rayburn, executive vice president editorial and new business development of The Publication Company; and Neil Shine, Free Press publisher.
