DETROIT AREA FORD, L-M SALES INCREASE IN SEPTEMBER
DETROIT, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Car and truck sales in Ford

Division's Detroit Region increased during September, and total 1992 model-year figures also rose compared to the previous year. Lincoln- Mercury Division dealers in metropolitan Detroit recorded sales gains in September.
Ford dealers in the region -- which includes Michigan, Northern Indiana and Northwest Ohio -- reported selling 6,106 cars in September, an increase of 28.1 percent, and 6,484 trucks, a 4.6 percent gain from last year, according to Timothy A. Boese, Ford Division regional sales manager.
For the first nine months of 1992, the region's dealers reported a 0.5 percent increase in car sales and 22.6 percent gain for trucks compared to the comparable period in 1991.
Boese said sales for the 1992 model year (Oct. 1991 to Sept. 1992) were 140,510 cars, a 16 percent increase, and 109,853 trucks, a 32 percent gain.
"Ford Taurus sales were up 116 percent for the month and new Probe sales were strong with a 153 percent increase," said Boese. "The Ford Explorer and Econoline Van were strong in the truck arena."
Lincoln-Mercury Detroit metro dealers reported 1,917 total vehicle sales for September, a 7 percent increase. For the 1992 model year, sales were at 20,305 vehicles, a decrease of 4 percent.
Boese noted that five of the top eight nameplates nationwide were Ford products during the just concluded model year.
"The F-Series pickup was America's most popular vehicle -- car or truck -- for the 11th straight year," he said. "The Taurus was fourth followed by the Explorer, with the Ford Ranger taking seventh place and the Ford Escort in eighth position."
