DESTINY'S CHILLED; Cool kid Fry reminds me of Thiago at same age.. he can be an amazing player, says Boro boss; FULHAM v MIDDLESBROUGH.
Byline: COLIN YOUNG
MIDDLESBROUGH defender Dael Fry may be the coolest teenager that boss Aitor Karanka has ever seen.
The 18-year-old centre-back has impressed since making his debut three games ago and is likely to continue at Fulham today, with Daniel Ayala still ruled out with an ankle injury.
Middlesbrough-born Fry is the latest graduate from the Boro academy to be promoted to the first team and his assured performances have come as no surprise to Karanka, who has compared the youngster to Spanish internationals Thiago Alcantara and Koke.
Karanka (right) said: "Dael is playing now with the sort of approach and character that Koke had when he was a youngster at Atletico Madrid. When he was 16 you knew he would be a star. Thiago (circled), who is now with Bayern, was the same at Barcelona. In Spain we had a lot of young players like him.
"Dael is the same for us against Leeds or Cardiff in front of thousands of people as he is when he plays with his youth team in front of hardly anyone. He has the same approach and he can handle it.
"If he continues with his normal development he will be an amazing player.
"I had confidence in him because he is always thinking about football; he has the perfect character for football.
"Three hours, two hours, one hour before a game, his face is always the same; even when you tell him he is going to play in his debut in the first team, his face is always the same.
"He is the kind of player who does not need to speak all the time, or be in the papers all the time, or has to say something to show how good he is. The main thing for me is the performance and the attitude."
HE'S THE REAL DAEL Teen star Fry has been tipped for a bright future after making a massive impression at Boro
