DESTEC ELECTS HELFENSTEIN TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 HOUSTON, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Destec Energy, Inc. (NYSE: ENG), a leading independent power producer based in Houston, announced today that Jack G. Helfenstein has been elected to its board of directors.
 Helfenstein is global vice president for hydrocarbons and energy for the Dow Chemical Company. Based in Horgen, Switzerland, Helfenstein is responsible for all of Dow's hydrocarbons and energy businesses. In addition, Helfenstein holds the positions of business vice president, hydrocarbons and energy for Dow Europe, and manager, Swiss affairs, and is a member of Dow Europe's policy board and management team.
 "Jack makes a great addition to the Destec board," said Robert McFedries, Destec's chairman. "As we expand beyond North America, Jack's international experience will be extremely beneficial."
 Helfenstein held management positions in Dow's functional products and inorganic chemicals businesses before being named director of Dow Europe Hydrocarbons in 1983. He was named executive vice president of Dow Europe, responsible for chemicals & performance products and hydrocarbons, in 1987 and global vice president in 1993.
 Helfenstein received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and a doctorate degree in economics/engineering from London University.
