DESPERATE DOUGRAY; Scots hunk to romance Teri on TV's Housewives.

Byline: By Louise Brown

DOUGRAY Scott is to play Teri Hatcher's new love interest in hit telly show Desperate Housewives.

The 40-year-old Scots heartthrob will arrive in Wisteria Lane to romance Teri's single mum character Susan Mayer.

And landing the role is a major boost for Scott, coming just months after the failure of his own American TV series Heist.

The Beverly Hills crime drama in which Dougray played a super-smooth crook was shelved because of poor ratings.

Last night, a TV insider revealed: "Desperate Housewives could not have come at a better time for Dougray.

"He was pretty down after Heist got axed. Everyone was talking about it like it was going to be the next big show but it didn't happen."

Award-winning Desperate Housewives has generated the highest ratings for a network in a decade, which is good news for Scott after the disappointment of Heist.

The star, from, Glenrothes, Fife, started off appearing in the likes of Soldier, Soldier and Taggart.

His big screen career started to take off when he appeared with Drew Barrymore in Ever After and in 2000 he starred alongside Tom Cruise as the villain Sean Ambrose in Mission Impossible II.

However, Scott has concentrated on low-profile film roles in recent years, such as playing Silus in vampire flick Perfect Creatures.

He also played Moses in a mini series of The Ten Commandments this year.

Now, he's relishing the prospect of teaming up with Hatcher. The insider added: "Dougray is looking forward to appearing in Desperate Housewives. He reckons it'll be a lot of fun.

"Playing a love interest to Susan Mayer, a single mum desperately looking for love and famous for her disastrous relationships, should be fun."

Her past boyfriends in the show include Mike Delfino, an ex-con plumber who won her heart but was tragically knocked over in the last series, and Karl, her cheating ex-husband.

The show's producers recently claimed Desperate Housewives would be back to its sexy best after a difficult second series.

A spokeswoman for the show said last night: "Yes it's true. Filming will begin in the next few months."
