DER ANNOUNCES NEW TRAIL FUNDING PROGRAM
HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The state Department of

Environmental Resources (DER) will begin accepting applications for grants to fund recreational trails and trail-related projects in Pennsylvania on Monday, Nov. 1.
Funding for the state's Recreational Trails Program was made available through the federal Symms National Recreational Trails Act of 1991. Gov. Robert P. Casey has designated DER as the agency responsible for administering the new funding program in the commonwealth.
The grants must be used for trail maintenance, development, acquisition, trail-head facilities or improvement of access and use of trails by persons with disabilities. Individuals, organizations, local governments and state and federal agencies are eligible to apply for funding.

The deadline for applications is Jan. 15, 1993. The grants will be awarded in April. To apply for trail funding in Pennsylvania, contact DER at: Pennsylvania Recreational Trails Program, P.O. Box 8551, Harrisburg, Pa., 17105-8551; telephone: 717-787-2316.
