DEPUTIES HUNT FOR RAPE SUSPECT.

Byline: Daily News

LANCASTER - Sheriff's deputies surrounded a Lancaster neighborhood on Friday after a man wanted in connection with the sexual assault of a Lancaster woman was spotted there, officials said.

The suspect, whose name was not released, eluded deputies despite a three-hour house-to-house and yard-to-yard search through the neighborhood in the 1500 blocks of West Avenue J-2 and West Avenue J-3.

Deputies said the man was seen near an apartment complex on Avenue J-2 just after 5 p.m., but when he spotted deputies he fled through the complex into an alley between avenues J-3 and J-4, then into the nearby housing tract.

Dozens of deputies searched with a police dog, but the man was not found.

Several deputies continued to circle the neighborhood in their patrol cars throughout the night, but could not locate the man.
