 DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO INTRODUCE
NEW ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN AT PRESS CONFERENCE
The U.S. Department of Transportation invites members of the media to a press preview of new public service broadcast and print ads for wearing safety belts.
Secretary of Transportation Andrew Card and his cohorts, crash dummies Vice and Larry, will introduce the new campaign prepared by the Leo Burnett USA agency and distributed nationally by the Advertising Council.
 WHEN: Wednesday, July 22, 3:30 p.m.
 WHERE: The Advertising Council
 261 Madison (at 39th street) -- 11 floor
 New York City
Secretary Card also will comment on the controversy over toy crash dummies based on the Ad Council characters and produced initially with permission from the National Highway Safety Administration that expires on Aug. 31.
The Safety Belt Education campaign, which began in 1985, has helped increase safety belt use to 59 percent of front seat riders nationwide (mandated in most states and saving 27,000 lives, just last year.)
The "Buckle Up" campaign is the most popular of all 28 Ad Council campaigns with the media.
CONTACT: Brad Lynch or Paula Veale of Advertising Council, 212-922-1500.
