DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE COMPLETES REVIEW OF ENTERGY/GULF STATES MERGER

 NEW ORLEANS and BEAUMONT, Texas, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Entergy Corporation (NYSE: ETR) and Gulf States Utilities Company (NYSE: GSU) announced today that the Department of Justice has informed them that it has completed its review of the proposed merger of their two companies and that the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act has expired.
 The merger proposal has received conditional approval from the Louisiana Public Service Commission and the Public Utility Commission of Texas. Other proceedings to secure approval are pending before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
