DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE AWARDS DONALDSON, LUFKIN & JENRETTE THE 1993 PRO PATRIA AWARD

NEW YORK, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette announced today that it had been awarded the 1993 New York City "Pro Patria" Award for the firm's support of military reservists called up during Operation Desert Storm in 1990. The award is the highest Department of Defense recognition of an employer's support for the U.S. Reserve forces.
The award, signed by Secretary of Defense Les Aspin, was presented today during a ceremony at DLJ today by Major General George Barker USAR (Ret.), chairman of the Department of Defense New York City Awards Committee. In attendance were DLJ President and CEO John Chalsty and the DLJ reservists who served in Operation Desert Storm.
"We are proud to receive this award, and we will continue to support the brave men and women who serve in the Reserves," said John Chalsty. "They dedicate a great deal of time and energy serving our country, and they deserve our recognition."
"DLJ has shown its commitment to the American Military Reserve by creating a positive atmosphere for company personnel who serve in the Reserves," said major General Barker. "DLJ's leadership serves as an example for every firm in the country. This award is well deserved and, on behalf of the Department of Defense, I extend congratulations."
The award commended DLJ's senior management for its consistent backing of Reserve personnel beyond established company guidelines. "(The firm) provided individuals with strong economic and emotional support while completing military obligations and any specialized training in excess of the annual two weeks training," the citation said.
Further, John Chalsty honored DLJ's returned Reserve veterans at a company breakfast, attended by senior management and select customers, where each reservist was awarded a cash bonus in recognition of their service.
