DENTO-MED SIGNS DIRECT TO RETAIL AS EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTOR TO QVC NETWORK FOR NEW FAMILY OF MOISTURIZING SKIN CARE PRODUCTS

BOCA RATON, Fla., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Dento-Med Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: DTMD), which in May 1993 began marketing on the QVC (NASDAQ: QVCN) home shopping television network the first skin care product utilizing the company's patented Hydron(R) moisturizing technology, has signed an exclusive agreement with DTR Associates Limited Partnership of Natick, Mass. to act as distributor solely to QVC for Dento-Med's full line of skin care products.
Direct to Retail (DTR), which has already introduced Dento-Med's Hydron(R) Hand & Body Moisturizer to QVC, plans to purchase additional products from Dento-Med for resale by the QVC television network later this year. The hand and body moisturizer has sold out during previous appearances on the shopping network, generating approximately $100,000 in QVC sales in only 30 minutes of air time.
New products, which will be available for fall distribution to QVC, include facial cleansers and toner, day- and nighttime facial moisturizers, an under-eye cream, a waterproof sunblock, and a self- tanning moisturizer with sunscreen protection. The agreement also gives DTR a right of first refusal to distribute these products at a later time to retail stores in the United States, exclusively. All of the products incorporate Dento-Med's Hydron moisturizing technology. "Hydron has been utilized by the soft contact lens industry for its hydrophilic or water-attracting properties for over 30 years. Until recently, however, it was impossible to incorporate Hydron in creams and lotions for use in cosmetics and skin care products," explains Harvey Tauman, president and chairman of Dento-Med, whose company developed and patented the emulsification process that made this possible.
According to Tauman, the Hydron technology is unusual in that it softens and smooths dry, rough or chaffed skin by restoring and maintaining the skin's natural moisture balance, without adding mineral oil, a common ingredient in most moisturizing lotions. "Mineral oil can clog pores and irritate people who have sensitive skin," says Tauman. Dento-Med's moisturizing products are dermatologist tested and approved for all skin types.
The company's distribution agreement with DTR will remain in effect for as long as Dento-Med markets through QVC the skin care products covered under the contract.
