DENTO-MED RECEIVES FDA CLEARANCE TO MARKET ADVANCED FORMULA DENTURE
ADHESIVE; MARKET TESTS SHOW PRODUCT PREFERRED OVER LEADING BRAND
BOCA RATON, Fla., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Dento-Med Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: DTMD) has received Section 510(k) premarket notification clearance from the Food and Drug Administration's Department of Health & Human Services for a new formulation patented denture adhesive. The FDA authorization allows the company to begin marketing of the product.
Dento-Med has also received results of a study on the new denture adhesive conducted by a national, independent market research facility. The company reports that the new adhesive had almost three times the adhesion force of the leading national brand market leader, when tested on an Instron universal testing instrument, a mechanical mouth simulator.
Double-blind directional tests for product preference and performance were also conducted on actual denture wearers. When comparing adhesive qualities, 79 percent of those surveyed rated Dento- Med's product "just right," vs. 46 percent for the national brand market leader. Of those participating in the study, 60 percent indicated they were completely/very satisfied with the Dento-Med product, vs. 41 percent for the market leader. Fifty-eight percent said they would definitely/probably purchase the product, vs. 35 percent for the market leader.
Dento-Med's product also rated highest in its ease of removal. Some adhesive generally remains on the roof of the mouth and on the denture itself following denture removal. This residual adhesive can be especially difficult for arthritic individuals, generally older denture wearers, to remove. American Dental Association statistics note that almost 40 percent of persons between 50 and 59, and 50 percent of those 60 and over, have either partial or full dentures. Of those surveyed, 79 percent rated Dento-Med's adhesive easy to remove, vs. 41 percent for the market leader.
Dento-Med is actively exploring marketing opportunities for its new formula denture adhesive with certain Fortune 500 consumer products companies. According to industry statistics, more than 50 million people over 30 years of age wear dentures, and approximately 2.5 million new denture wearers enter the market each year.
