DENNY McLAIN TO PITCH IN WITH AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS FOR CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Twenty-five years after winning 31 games for the world champion Detroit Tigers, Denny McLain will take the mound next week to help Exxon Chemical Company benefit Children's Hospital of Michigan and the Kristin McLain Foundation.
McLain will pitch baseballs March 4 at Exxon Chemical's exhibit No. 2031 at the Society of Automotive Engineers International Congress and Exposition. The exposition, which attracts automotive industry personnel from around the world, runs March 1 to 4 at Cobo Center in Detroit.
Exxon Chemical's baseball-themed exhibit will feature a "Polymers Pitch-Off" in a pitching cage, where the engineers visiting each day can throw baseballs at samples of the company's impact-resistant automotive plastics. Each pitcher's accuracy and velocity will be recorded and averaged with those of others from his or her company, and Exxon Chemical will donate $1,000 to Children's Hospital of Michigan on behalf of the "team" with the highest average.
McLain will pitch an inning at approximately 2 p.m. on March 4, while the results of the contest are being tabulated. For each of his pitches that hit the target, Exxon Chemical will increase its contribution to Children's Hospital by $100 as well as contribute $100 to the Kristin McLain Foundation. The winning automotive team will be announced at 2:30 p.m., and Frank Brzenk, director of automotive operations for Exxon Chemical's Polymers Group, will then present checks to Dr. Frances Eldis, head of the Communication Disorders department of Children's Hospital of Michigan.
Exxon Chemical's SAE show exhibit will also feature a live pendulum crash test to demonstrate the strength and impact resistance of an all-polyolefin bumper system. Examples of high-performance thermoplastics for a wide variety of automotive applications will also be exhibited.
The Polymers Group of Exxon Chemical Company, a division of Exxon Corporation (NYSE: XON), is a leading international supplier of engineered polyolefin plastics and elastomers for the automotive industry.
