DENNIS K. ECK NAMED PRESIDENT OF THE VONS COMPANIES INC. ARCADIA, Calif., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The Vons Companies Inc.
(NYSE: VON) announced the title change of Dennis K. Eck from vice chairman and chief operating officer to the position of president and chief operating officer. As president and chief operating officer, Eck is responsible for overseeing the operations of the company, reporting directly to Roger E. Stangeland, chairman of the board and chief executive officer. Eck also serves on the Vons board of directors.
"Dennis has clearly demonstrated his leadership skills as well as his ability to translate new ideas into improved operations that benefit our customers, employees and shareholders," said Stangeland, chairman and chief executive officer. "I am confident he will help to ensure Vons continued success in the future." Eck has been chief operating officer of The Vons Companies for two years and had previously been chairman and chief executive officer for American Food and Drug Inc., a division of American Stores Co. Prior to that, Eck held a variety of executive management positions for American Stores in the corporation's Acme Markets, Sav-On Drugs and Jewel Foods divisions. Eck is replacing Bill Davila who recently retired as president of the company. Davila will assume the new position of president emeritus. He will continue his role as the company spokesperson, as well as continue to serve on Vons board of directors. The Vons Companies Inc., headquartered in Arcadia, operates more than 339 stores throughout Southern California and Nevada under the names Vons, Pavilions, Williams Bros. and Tianguis and owns the Jerseymaid Milk Products Co.
