DEMAND FOR TEMPORARY LAWYERS SKYROCKETS ACROSS AMERICA AND OVERSEAS

-- American and International Companies Hire Temporary Lawyers
to Beat the Recession and Reduce Overhead --
NEW YORK, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Special Counsel today released the following:
The current recession has created an unprecedented demand for temporary lawyers. As a result, Special Counsel(R), America's leading temporary attorney service, has expanded to meet the need. We are now placing temporary lawyers nationwide and overseas.
Companies and firms across America and in Eastern & Western Europe are using temporary lawyers instead of hiring permanent ones -- because they cost less. Employers are using temporary lawyers to travel to their branch offices, subsidiaries and discovery locations for long-term temporary assignments.
For example, a Washington law firm hired a team of temporary lawyers for a case in Utah. They used three Utah lawyers and three New York lawyers who traveled to Utah for 8 months. The firm paid $50.00 an hour for each attorney, far less than the $82,000 salary they pay their permanent lawyers.
Similarly, a major international bank hired a New York lawyer to travel and work in their London office. The company paid $60 an hour - a big savings over the $250 they would pay their outside law firm to do the same work.
Temporary attorneys earn between $65,000 and $250,000 per year - far more than their counterparts at major law firms. Often, (25 percent of the time) temporary jobs turn into permanent ones. "The temporary help industry is part of the solution to the current recession," notes Bruce Steinberg, spokesperson for the National Association of Temporary Services. "Services like Special Counsel act as a conduit to full-time employment for unemployed people."
Our portfolio of temporary lawyers consists of several thousand highly credentialed attorneys who are eager to temp. Mail running upwards of 2,000 resumes a month shows the demand. Our temporary attorneys are all top law school graduates. They include attorneys who are looking for permanent jobs, law professors, sole practitioners, dual careerists and parents with young children.
The use of temporary attorneys and other contract professionals has become a fixture in today's workplace and promises to become the mainstay of tomorrow's workplace. According to statistics compiled by the National Association of Temporary Services, temporary professionals (doctors, lawyers, accountants, engineers) are the fastest growing segment of the temporary services industry, which is expected to grow exponentially over the next 10 years.
since our founding in 1987, Special Counsel has grown exponentially. Last year alone we grew by more than 200 percent. Our clients include major employers like Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson, Citicorp/Citibank and MCI Telecommunications Corp. Here's what they say about attorneys:
"Special Counsel... provides us with top quality people at a reasonable rate that makes it cost effective for us to use them when we need a great deal of manpower on short notice."
-- Robert Abrahams, Esq., Schutte Roth &
 Zabel, New York, N.Y.
"It's really catching on ...I've saved between $120,000 and $160,000 in one year...they're doing work associates would be doing."

 Irvine, Calif.
